The 'Living Forgotten Realms of Oxford' group is a collection of roleplayers, of all ages from sixteen to sixty, who meet up once or twice a week at members' homes to play Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying games. We aren't affiliated with either of the city's universities, though a number of our members are students.
The games we play are set in the popular Forgotten Realms campaign setting, a fictional high fantasy world that has been around since the Eighties and has given rise to dozens of novels and computer games. We use the Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition (D&D4e) rules system, which most people find easier to pick up and start playing than previous editions, with vinyl battlemats and a wide selection of plastic miniatures to play out the combats. Each session lasts for around four to five hours (on weekday evenings we usually start around 7pm and aim to finish by about 11:30 to midnight), and each session we play a self-contained adventure produced specifically for the official Living Forgotten Realms (LFR) campaign.
If you'd like to come along and give it a try then sign up to our Yahoo! Group mailing list to say hello and see what games are on - applications are filtered to avoid spammers to please put a short message about yourself in the comments box. If you have any questions or don't get a timely response then please email the group's organiser (currently Andy W).
IMPORTANT NOTICE: This website is no longer being updated (as of early 2010), but the group is still very much active.
In combination with the Yahoo! Group we now use a Wiki page at lfr-oxford.wikispaces.com and a Doodle poll to organise games.
The Living Forgotten Realms of Oxford group has its own Yahoo! Group mailing list on which we arrange games, discuss various matters and store useful files. You can join this list by sending an email to <lfr-oxford-subscribe@yahoogroups.com> or by visiting its webpage at games.groups.yahoo.com/group/lfr-oxford and clicking on the "Join this group" button. If you have problems trying to join the list by either of these methods then email the listmod, Ed, at <lfr-oxford-owner@yahoogroups.com> and he'll do his best to sort them out. Alternatively, you can click on the button below:
There is also a national Yahoo! Group mailing list for general discussion of Living Forgotten Realms games in the UK. You can join that list by sending an email to <lfr_luruar-subscribe@yahoogroups.com> or by visiting its webpage at games.groups.yahoo.com/group/lfr_luruar and clicking on the "Join this group" button.
There are many more links to be found on our Links page, the selection listed here covers the most important campaign links and links to other local groups.
